Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officers observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

· Nutrition and Food Services

As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operational environment

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: it was noted that the hot water measured 51 degrees c,
Corrective Action(s): please ensure hot water does not exceed 49 degrees, licensee stated that hot water tank was replaced recently and the water temp was not adjusted

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: it was observed that hands were washed using wipes, this does not provide opportunity to teach children and practice the rules of health and hygiene
Corrective Action(s): please ensure children's hand are washed with water and soap

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17020 - CCLR s.48(1)(b) - A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.
Observation: the food containers, water bottles and open food containers are not stored in a manner that promotes healthy eating
Corrective Action(s): please ensure the food and water bottles are stored in a manner that promotes healthy eating
