An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed: Licensing; Physical Facility; Staffing; Polices & Procedures; Care & Supervision; Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control; Medication; Nutrition and Food Services; Program; Records and Reporting
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Comments

Upon arrival Licensing observed a circle meeting taking place where the teacher explained all of the different activity areas that children could choose from, children left the circle meeting and chose their first activity of the day.

Children freely moved between activities which consisted of: play dough, a turkey making gluing project, free paint at easels, sensory boxes, books, fine motor equipment (lock box, puzzle etc) light table, building with blocks, engaging in dramatic play, creating stories at a doll house, playing at the train table.

Licensing observed staff getting down on children's level to discuss their activities, assist with problem solving etc.
When staff noticed a child was unsure of what activity to choose they discussed the options with them to assist with their choice making.
