Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspection for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed in the playroom the front ledge of the hearth of a fireplace covered with a soft protective material but the sides of the hearth exposed to concrete and rock material.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: Licensing observed the staff and children going for a walk. The manager stated that they do not have a transportation policy but do inform parents/guardians of the outing. Education was provided on the reasoning why a policy is required and resouces will be provided on what information the policy should include.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure written policies and provides are created to guide employees in the care and supervision pretaining to the transport of children.

Comments

At today’s inspection there were 5 children, 2 staff and the manager present. Licensing conducted a walk through of the entire facility.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by November 23, 2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response.
As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed. The risk assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection, a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation. This is used to determine inspection frequency.
The contents of the inspection report were reviewed with the manager prior to the inspection report being written off-site. A copy of this report will be hand delivered to the facility, reviewed with the manager and the bulletin: childcare policies and procedures provided on November 16, 2022.
The following was discussed with the manager;
- Absent employees and their replacements as per s.37 of the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR)
- Wall maintenance
- Date and parent/guardian signature on care plans
- Storing medicine
- Bounded minor incident log and Including communication with families within log
