Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: During inspection of the outside play area, it was found that 3 fence panels have rotten wood and require repair or replacement.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure outdoor fence is free from hazards and in good repair.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: During review of policies and procedures for the program it was found that the licensee does not have a written policy on active play or screen time.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure there is a policy on active play and screen time available

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: During inspection it was found in 2 instances where the licensee doesn't practice the rules of health and hygiene.
1. Through conversation with the licensee it was found that the diapering routine does not include sanitization of the change mat between uses.
2. Children are required to wash hands in the kitchen sink because the tap in the washroom sink is too difficult for the children to turn on. .
Corrective Action(s): 1. Ensure the diaper change mat is sanitized after every use.
2. Ensure the children have access to a working tap and sink in the washroom to wash.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17010 - CCLR s.48(1)(a) - A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.
Observation: During inspection the fridge temperature was recorded as 7 degrees Celsius
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the fridge temperature is between 0-4 degrees Celsius

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: A review of 3 files found that 1 file was missing part of the registration sheet containing, name, sex, and date of birth.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children's files are complete

Comments

At the inspection dated August 15, 2019 there were 7 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee included here. As part of this routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

· Lead in the Water
