Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Furniture, equipment, and/or fixtures were in disrepair, including: lower area of the walls.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the community care facility and the furniture and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): DLSOP Active Play – The Licensee has not developed and/or implemented an Active Play and Screen Use Policy.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure there are written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19050 - CCLR s.56(1)(f) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.
Observation: Upon inspection, the licensee not have a log of minor accidents or illnesses.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure current records are kept for each of the following: a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

Comments

At the inspection dated October 15, 2021 there were 4 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Practicum student’s documentation to be on site with the student.
