Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: Upon inspection, Managers name was not posted.
Corrective Action(s): Please post the name of the manager.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon inspection of the toddler classroom and the group childcare naproom, there was exposed gyprock and peeling paint on the window ledge.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection of the infant washroom there was Lysol spray,baby powder,glade spray and a bottle of bleach sitting on a low counter.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any substance that may be hazardous to their health.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Upon inspection of the emergency supplies, the water was expired and some food had already expired.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the licensee has emergency supplies to prepare for,mitigate,respond and recover from an emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Upon review of the attendance records, there were 3 children missing a departure time
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a departure time is recorded.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated March 1 2019 there were 37 children and 10 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response as to corrective actions taken to address contraventions cited. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:

· Lead in the Water
A discussion was had with the licensee about when to report to licensing and snow closures.
