Introduction

A scheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a low hanging cord plugged into the wall in the toddler room in reach of children. The cord was attached to a large, heavy stereo system. The concern is the stereo could fall if the cord was pulled. The cord was moved while Licensing was present.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

Comments

At this inspection dated May 14, 2020, there were 23 children and 6 staff present. At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified.
The following was discussed with the staff:
· COVID-19 prevention strategies
· Snack and mealtimes
· Fire drills
· Outdoor play space

As part of the routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The inspection report was written off-site – all details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the inspection report and risk assessment were e-mailed to the Manager on May 15, 2020.
