Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). The following areas were reviewed for compliance: Physical Facility, Staffing, Hygiene & Communicable Disease Control, Records & Reporting and Policies & Procedures. LO reviewed and discussed COVID-19 prevention strategies with the Manager.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Washroom's water temperature measured 54.1 degree Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49 degree Celsius.

Comments

At this inspection dated April 22, 2020 there were 4 children and 2 staff present. Licensee was on site and assisted LO with today's inspection. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to provide a written response by below date, including how areas found to be in non-compliance are addressed. The contravention noted in this report were reviewed with the manager during today's inspection. This inspection report was completed off site and emailed along with the Risk Assessment to the facility the same day.

The following education/recommendations were provided in regards to:
-Cleaning and Sanitizing
-Health & Hygiene Practices
-Social Distancing
-Precautions and Practices for Sick Children

LO provided the Resource Package for Child Care Facilities COVID-19 Prevention, including:
-Educational Hand Washing Posters
-Cleaning and Disinfecting in Childcare Setting
-Guidance in the Selection of Cleaners, Sanitizers or Disinfectants

LO observed and discussed the following with staff on site:
- First Aid Kit: any items with DIN # cannot be used with children unless parent's authorization is obtained
- Food Handling: to avoid any cross contamination during COVID-19, LO suggested to have only one staff person to handle snack prepping and serving for the children. At this time, discourage any communal snack sharing within the program.
- Communication book/ log book: one book used for both purposes. For easy reference, any minor incidents recorded could be highlighted.
