Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: String of lights and extension cord was secured with push pins, and the extension plug was accessible to children on the table. This was corrected at the inspection.
-Two areas of the wall had damage with exposed drywall. Staff will cover with posters until a permanent fix can be completed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: Licensing observed that the emergency evacuation bin has been recently reviewed. This was documented with a checklist, however there was no documentation of the evacuation plan having been practiced at least once per year.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that each employee practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Date to be Corrected: Imediately and ongoing.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19050 - CCLR s.56(1)(f) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.
Observation: A log book was available however had not been in use since June.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep current record of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents as described in Schedule H.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 17 children, and 2 staff on site.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Emergency supplies were reviewed, and discussed. Please ensure to have sufficient food and water to sustain children and staff for at least 72 hours in an emergency.
Cleaning and sanitization systems were reviewed and discussed.
