Observation: Personal belongings (backpacks, water bottles, etc.) were stored on food contact surfaces in the back preparation area.
Corrective Action(s): Personal belongings should be stored in a separate area to prevent contamination of food and food contact surfaces. Reorganize the back area to ensure adequate separation of personal items. Date to be corrected by: July 30, 2021.

308 - Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces are not in good working order [s. 16(b)]
Observation: 1) The back preparation cooler was not functional. No food was stored in the cooler.
2) The food preparation shelf around the front hand washing sink is worn out and the metal coating is peeling off due to the rust underneath.
Corrective Action(s): 1) Repair the cooler to ensure adequate cold storage is available for safe food handling in the facility. Do not store potentially hazardous foods in the cooler. Date to be corrected by: July 30, 2021.
2) Repair/replace the counter around the hand washing sink to ensure the surface is smooth, durable, and easy to clean. Date to be corrected by: August 27, 2021

Observation: Operator did not have a valid Food Safe level 1 certification. She claimed that she was in the process of obtaining it.
Corrective Action(s): Obtain Food Safe level 1 certification and provide a copy to the inspector. Date to be corrected by: August 6, 2021.

Comments

Routine inspection conducted.

Temperatures:
- Front preparation cooler (top/bottom): <4C.
- Back upright freezer: -21C.
- Front ice-cream/yogurt chest freezer: -20C.
- Retail space coolers were at 4C or below.
- Back preparation cooler is not in use as it is due for maintenance. No food was stored inside.
- Back sliding door cooler is not in use and is to be removed from the facility. No food was stored inside.
- Rice in the rice cooker was at 68C.

Thermometers were available.

Sanitation:
- Hand washing sinks were adequately equipped with hot and cold running water, liquid soap, and disposable paper towels.
- Bleach sanitizer spray bottles and pails were at 200 ppm chlorine residual.
NOTE: Ensure wiping cloths are kept soaked in sanitizer pails or put in laundry after each use. A wiping cloth was found sitting on a box of bottled juices at the back.
- Blenders are washed and sanitized after each use - GOOD
- 2 compartment sinks were equipped with plugs.
- Bleach was available on site.

Storage:
- General food storage practices satisfactory at the time of inspection.
- Foods stored off the floor and covered.
- Stainless steel racks are used.
- Randomly selected items were within their best before dates in the dry storage area.

Pest Control:
- No signs of pests noted at the time of inspection.

Administration:
- A valid FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate was available for one staff member who was not on site. The operator claimed that she is in the process of updating her certification. *see violation above*
- Permit was posted.
NOTE: Ensure temperature and sanitation logs are maintained.
