Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DoLSoP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During inspection licensing observed:
-A potty seat was stored in bathroom which was visibly soiled
-Children did not have access to one use hand towels in the PK 1 bathroom after hand washing
-Blind cords were hanging accessible to children who were in the PK 1, and 3-4 classroom, providing risk of entanglement or chocking.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while the children are under the supervision of employees.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: During inspection children were signed in to one classroom and had been moved to another classroom, and staff became confused as to how many children were in each room while children were in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep, for each child, a record showing the daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19130 - CCLR s.57(2)(g) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (g) any notification of a parent, emergency contact or medical health officer made under section 55 [notification of illness or injury].
Observation: 15 children's records were reviewed. Two children's records contained no emergency contact person.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep for each child, a record containing emergency contact.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 46 children, the manager, 8 staff, and the licensee.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
The following was discussed
Storage of staff items out of reach of children.
Cleaning and sanitization practices.
Securing shelving and equipment if they pose a risk for injury.
