Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon inspection, it was observed that serval walls throughout the play area has holes and areas where gyrock is exposed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is clean and in good repair

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Upon inspection of the outdoor play area, it was observed that children have access to a storage shed with cleaning products.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Upon review of staff files, a criminal record check was not obtained. The Licensee explained she was unaware her criminal record check has expired.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure criminal record check is obtained and current.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Upon review of daily attendance records, departure times were not recorded on several occasions.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure daily attendance records are complete and accurate

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: Upon review of child records, there is no care plan available for a child with an allergy. The Licensee explained that she will follow up with the parent for further information.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a care plan is available for each child requiring extra support.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 30, 2022 there were 6 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Licensee/Manager to provide Licensing with a written response with actions taken to bring facility into compliance. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool will be completed and a copy will be provided.
