Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon inspection of the facility, there were many areas in the infant & toddler classrooms where there was exposed gyp-rock where the white residue came off on fingers.This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11480 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Upon inspection of the outdoor play yard, there were sharp zap straps by the garden fence and exposed mesh coming out of the grass that posed a tripping hazard to the children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided for the children in care.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated November 13, 2019 there were 27 children and 8 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response as to the corrective actions taken.Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.

A discussion was had with staff regarding raking the wood chips outside to ensure clean resilient surfacing.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

· Lead in the Water
