Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Observed during inspection:
-Under sink cabinet contained plastic grocery bags, and a blender with the cord accessible to children, this was corrected during inspection.
-The outdoor play area contained no gate to prevent access to the upstairs deck area. Licensee stated they have one when they do go outside, however they are typically walking to the park for active play.
-Storage of paint can, lawn mower, tools, wood structures, wood pieces, tarp, garbage bags, a fire pit, and tires stacked up were accessible to children. The lawn mower was removed during inspection. The licensee stated they are taking children to play at the park for outside active play at this time, and will continue to do this until the yard is addressed. The licensee stated they will have these items addressed by September 6th.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under supervision of employees.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there was 1 child, and the facility Licensee present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contravention.

The following was discussed:

Creating systems for making cupboards inaccessible if storing hazardous items.
Systems for record requirements were discussed.
It was discussed the creation of a log system for reviewing the outdoor area for risks to children and addressing them.
