Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During inspection the following was observed:
· In the infant and toddler nap room there were three exposed electrical outlets accessible to the children. Manager made them inaccessible during the inspection.
· The doorknob on the naproom closet was quite loose. Manager fixed this during inspection.
· The fridge temperatures were measured at 12.7 degrees Celsius in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) program room and 8.7 degrees Celsius in the Infant and Toddler program.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 2,2022 there were thirty children, seven staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by August 5, 2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the Manager:
Fire extinguisher due for renewal this week, 4 August 2022
Practicing annual emergency drills by using the contents of the Earthquake Emergency Kit with the children
Bottles of cleaning solutions to be stored so that they are inaccessible to children
Safe storage and refrigeration of children's lunches

The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email on August 2,2022.
