Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12160 - CCLR s.20(1) - The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation: Manager and a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present does not have a current crminal record check through the Criminal Records Review Agency in Victoria. Manager and this person currently has a clear criminal record check from the RCMP on file at the facility. Licesning provided eduaction and information for the Criminal Records Review Agency.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all criminal record check are processed through Criminal Records Review Agency in Victoria.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation: Two children with additional needs are missing a care plan. Manager was able to explain what is needed but there isn't a plan written down to follow.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure there is a care plan written and in place for each child who requires extra support.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 22, 2022 there were five children and Manager and one staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by June 29, 2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the Manager:
·Spring cleaning of outdoor toys and overgrown weeds & grass.
·Use of sleeping equipment such as a playpen; used for children must meet manufacturer’s guidelines.
·Maintaining and updating children records to indicate any current changes to children daily care or routines.
The following resources were provided and discussed:
· Bulletin-Care Plan
· Anaphylaxis (via email)
· Medication Form(via email)
· PH - Safe sleep environments (via email)

The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email on June 22, 2022.
