Introduction

An unscheduled follow-up inspection to Routine Inspection # SMIA- CZYV7M dated 30 January 2024 was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). The previous outstanding contraventions were assessed for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11220 - CCLR s.23(2) - A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.
Observation: Upon arrival, Licesning observed that staff had taken the children off-site without a first aid kit. The manager was aware that the staff did not have a first aid kit with them and explained that this was because the staff had a phone to use in an emergency. Licesning discussed when children are taken off-site, staff must have first aid kits readily available to them so they can provide first aid to children as needed.

At the inspection dated 23 April there were 3 children,1 staff and Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Manager will provide Licensing with a written response. Licensing will review the response.
Following was discussed with the manager:
On February 13, 2024 the facility submitted a plan to Licensing with the renovation timeline; renovation is still ongoing. The manager will provide Licensing an updated plan that includes renovation completion timelines and children's use of daycare space both indoors and outdoors during the renovation.
Valid criminal record checks are required for persons over the age of 12 who are ordinarily present at the facility.

The inspection report was written at Health Protection office as the Manager was leaving the facility to join the children playing off site. Details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. This inspection report is emailed to the manager on 23 April 2204.
