Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted on to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a tube of topical ointment placed on a low shelf in the main play area, accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all medications, creams, ointments are placed out of the reach of children in care at all times.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19060 - CCLR s.57(1)(a)(b)(c) - A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).
Observation: 5 childrens files were reviewed of which:
- 1 was missing an MSP #
- 2 were missing a Dr. name and phone number
- 1 was missing a digital image
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure you have a system in place to review children's files and ensure they are up to date and complete

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19190 - CCLR s.57(3)(a) - A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Observation: 5 children's files were reviewed of which 3 were missing consent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children have consent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness

Comments

At the inspection on March 16, 2021 there were 5 children and 1 staff present.
At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed off site and a copy was provided.


The following education was provided:
· Beds placed close together in the nap room. Suggested sleep/rest head to toe or spread mats out into the play area.
· Discussion about children's lunch table- with sharp edges. Consider placing covers on edges as you have done for the shelves in the program.
