Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #DCHG-AWZQ3Z have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: During inspection Licensing reviewed staff documentation and noted that there is no proof on file that the ECE, ECE A certificates have been verified.

Licensee stated they have been verified on-line.
Corrective Action(s): Provide proof in staff files that ECE and ECE A certificates have been verified.

STAFFING: 12430 - CCLR s.56(1)(b) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation: During inspection Licensing reviewed staff documentation and noted that some Criminal Record approval letters are not addressed to the Licensee.

Licensee discussed that they have submitted some share forms to the Criminal Record Review Program & will do so for others.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure Criminal Record approval letters are addressed to the Licensee.

Comments

At the inspection dated Feb 28, 2019 there were 7 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified were identified.
Licensee to send email to Geographic Licensing Officer once required documentation is received.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
During inspection Licensing observed children were engaged in free play, including free art, eating snack, having circle an practicing a fire drill.
During inspection Licensing observed staff interacting with children while they were engaged in activities, giving warnings before transitions and assisting with problem solving when necessary.
