Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed:

· Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control
· Medication
· Nutrition and Food Services

· Records and Reporting

As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: One crib was unsteady and wobbly. The Licensee stated that they are not using it. A discussion was had with the Licensee about removing it from the nap room. Licensee stated her husband will remove it.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all equipment is sturdy and safe.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: One staff person does not have a valid Criminal record check.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that each person employed has a valid criminal record check. A discussion was had with the Licensee about not having the person in the community care facility until the clear criminal record check received.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: The Licensee stated that she has not developed a screen use or active play policy. She stated that she only uses the TV for music.
Corrective Action(s): Develop and implement an active play and screen use policy.

Comments

The Licensee has created authorization for picking children up and dropping them off at school. It is recommended that the Licensee create a transportation policy to include in her resources. Please advise parents of children not attending school if they are dropping off or picking up the children using a vehicle.

There is a car seat and highchair on the side of the house that the Licensee stated she will be placing in the garbage.
