Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). The following areas of the facility were inspected: Licensing, Physical facility, equipment and furnishings, Policies and procedures, Staffing, Care & supervision, Hygiene and communicable disease control, Program, Records and reporting.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Little Tykes equipment in the backyard is in need of cleaning.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure all equipment used by children is clean.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: An area of the backyard is used to store gardening equipment. This area is accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure children do not have access to this area. The Licensing Officer discussed using landscape fencing that is at the facility and not currently being used.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17010 - CCLR s.48(1)(a) - A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The fridge temperature was 12c.
Corrective Action(s): To ensure safe storage of food please make sure the fridge temperature is between 0-4c. The manager turned the fridge temperature down during this inspection.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated May 7, 2020 there were six children and one staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this routine inspection a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following were discussed with the manager:
Enhanced cleaning/sanitization of the facility during the Covid 19 Pandemic (including doorknobs, light switches, all high touch surfaces, toys and equipment).
Ensuring sick children are not allowed to attend the facility and ensuring a child who becomes sick while at the facility is picked up as soon as possible.
Ensuring all children have current emergency contact persons on file.
Playing outdoors for longer periods of time.
Limiting the amount of physical contact between children during the Covid 19 Pandemic (eg no rough housing).
How to set up the indoor play space to enhance positive play.
How to use sand/water/playdough during the Covid 19 Pandemic
