Observation: The food service area and the back area was very cluttered. The shelves had food debris and the floors around equipment/cabinets also had debris build-up.
Corrective Action(s): Re-organize the back area to allow for safe access to the 3 compartment sinks and the stand-up freezer. Do not store office supplies/boxes in the area around the sinks as that can pose as a physical tripping hazard.
The build-up of food debris can encourage pest activity and cause food contamination. Perform a thorough deep clean of the facility, reaching behind equipment and hard to reach areas to ensure sanitation. Date to be corrected by: Friday, February 12, 2021.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A spray bottled labelled as Sanitizer contained water.
Corrective Action(s): The operator poured out the water at the time of the inspection. Ensure appropriate chemicals are poured in appropriate bottles to prevent mix ups.

502 - In operator’s absence, no staff on duty has FOODSAFE Level 1 or equivalent [s. 10(2)]
Observation: The employees on-site did not have FoodSafe 1 or its equivalent. 7-Eleven's in-house training program is not recognized by BCCDC as an equivalent to FoodSafe 1.
Corrective Action(s): For future shifts, please ensure that at least one employee on duty has FoodSafe 1. FoodSafe 1 is offered both as a classroom course or online through OpenSchool BC. Please refer to www.foodsafe.ca for more details. Email a copy of proof of registration to the inspector. Date to be corrected by: Friday, February 19, 2021.

Comments

Routine inspection of the food premises conducted. The facility is in satisfactory sanitary condition.

Temperatures:
- Walk-in cooler: 3C
- Under counter freezer: -18C
- Upright freezer: -21C
- Hot-dog / rolls machine: 84C
- Hot holding: 76C
All units were equipped with accurate thermometers.

Sanitation:
- Hand washing sink was equipped with splash guards, hot/cold running water, liquid soap, and paper towels.
- 3-compartment sink was equipped with functional drain plugs.
- Quaternary ammonium compound sanitizer (QUATS) dispensed at 200 ppm.
- Sanitizing spray bottle was at 200 ppm QUATS. Single use paper towels are used to wipe down the surfaces.

NOTE: Follow the manufacturer's instructions for appropriate use of the sanitizer.

Storage and Pest Management:
- No signs of recent pest activity noted at the time of inspection.

Handling and Hygiene:
- Food held in the hot holding unit is time monitored using an online software. Pizza his hot-held for 1 hour, other items for 2 hours. Hot dogs and rolls are hot-held for 4 hours.
- Overall, staff had good personal hygiene.
- Hand washing was observed at multiple occasions.

Administration:
- Employees on site have in-house only have 7-Eleven Food Safety Training

NOTE: Sanitation logs should be maintained for the whole facility the records should be available on site for review.

COVID-19 Safety:
- BCCDC signage is posted at the front entrance.
- Masks are mandatory. Signs are posted.
- Ground markings in place to allow for crowd control.
