Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that the name of the manager was not displayed in a prominent place in the community care facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the name of the manager is displayed in a prominent place in the community care facility.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed the outdoor play area, and noted that the pointed end of some nails were protruding out from the wooden fence. The pointed ends of these nails were located just above the ground and easily accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children do not have access to objects that may be hazardous to their safety.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection, Licensing noted that the sign in/out sheet has not been used for the past week.

This item was identified and contravened on June 04, 2019 on routine inspection report #KSEY-BCTNKC.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the sign in/out sheet is completed throughout the day on a daily basis. This information is taken with staff during an emergency, and it is used to determine the children who are present and in care.

ยท Licensing went on-site unannounced and attempted to complete a routine inspection on June 08, 2022. However, there was no response at the door at the time, and a staff said via phone conversation that the facility was closed that day.

At the inspection dated June 29, 2022 there were 4 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Reportable Incident procedures, which is to be reported within 24 hours. Child care staff are asked to call their Licensing Officer to make the report. If the Licensing Officer is unavailable, please call the Duty Line.
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log bound book, and take note of any illness and unexpected events involving children not requiring medical attention, and that are not reportable incidents as described in Schedule H and staff to initial and date after each documentation.
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Procedure for cleaning bed sheets and sleeping materials
