Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Food products consumed by the children in care are stored in the facility fridge. Their is no thermometer in the fridge to ensure the safe food storage in the fridge. The manager relayed that the thermometer has been misplaced.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: The facility fire drill records were reviewed. In the month of November a fire drill was not conducted. LO discussed the requirement for practicing fire drills on a monthly basis.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure fire drills are practiced on a monthly basis.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: Children were eating snack during the inspection. LO confirmed that these children did not wash their hands prior to eating their snacks. LO discussed with the manager the requirement for the program to instruct children to practice health and hygiene practices prior to eating.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children practice health and hygiene practices.

Comments

On the inspection date of December 4, 2019 there were 16 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include a corrective action plan required to be submitted and actions required the LO include to review and monitor the corrective action plan. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
