Introduction

An unscheduled follow-up inspection to Routine Inspection # SMIA-CTTS7C dated 17 July 2023 was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). The previous outstanding contraventions were assessed for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed a cargo tricycle stored in the cubby area; it was sitting on a jack stand where the back wheel was missing. Licensing was concerned it could fall over on children when they are using this area. Manager said that she is waiting for a spare part to arrive in order to repair it.
Corrective Action(s): A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 1, 2023 there were 3 children and Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response. Licensing will review the response.
Following was discussed with the Manager:
Criminal Record Review Agency sharing program
Manager showed Licensing officer the steps & procedure used before children go outside; to ensure that it is free of dog feces before children use it.
Ensuring children can't open the child proof locks used on doors
Indoor dog kennel to be inaccessible to children
