Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). At today’s inspection there were 13 children and 3 staff, including the manager, present in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) program. The school aged children were at school.

Observed Violations
CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: Group Child Care - Staff to Child ratio not maintained. (ECE/ASST/ASST). This is a recurring item of non-compliance.
Corrective Action(s): The manager confirmed that she will provide Licensing with a long term plan to ensure required staffing qualifications at all times.

Comments

During this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The following was discussed with the manager:
Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space : Equipment for preschool children must be no more than 1.5 meters (5 feet) in height.
All care categories were inspected for compliance. Program policies and procedures and emergency supplies were discussed but not observed during this inspection and will be reviewed during a follow up inspection.
The information contained in the report was discussed with the manager and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing emailed a copy of the report and the risk assessment to the facility.
