Introduction

A scheduled follow up inspection to Routine Inspection #ANAI-BQMPXD was conducted. All areas of non-compliance identified at the Routine Inspection where inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed the following as accessible to children:
- Broken plank on the ground surfacing causing a tripping hazard (over three outdoor play space).
-The wooden steps rotted on the edge (over three outdoor play space).
-A gate is coming off it's hinges in the Grads Classroom.
-A shelf in disrepair with chipping paint in the PK1 Aqua Classroom.
-Large chip in the door exposing wood that splinters (Gross motor room & PK3 Classroom).
-The door at the back of the classroom in PK1 Marine is visible signs of dirt build-up and tape/glue residue.
-A step stool in PK3 which has visible signs of dirt build-up.
-Glue residue on some storage boxes (identified at routine inspection).
-Cracked floor in baby Blue classroom (identified at routine inspection).
-A wall mounted mirror is missing the bottom edge exposing chipping paint and white underlay.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that systems are established to ensure that the facility is clean and in good repair at all times.

Comments

Summary of inspection:
A follow-up to Routine Inspection was conducted on August 14th/ 20. The facility Manager was not present.
A COVID-19 Risk Screening was conducted prior to the inspection.
Due to COVID-19 safety practices, this report was written off site and a signature was not received.
Digital images were taken at the inspection. Licensing requested that a staff member inform the Manager that images were taken and copies will be provided upon request.
A copy of the digital images and the report were mailed to the the facility, care of the Manager.

The following contraventions identified at the Routine Inspection have been appropriately addressed:
- An electrical cover in PK3.
-Large patches of missing paint in various class rooms through out the facility.
-Baby bottles were observed on the counter. A discussion with the staff indicated that a three sink dish washing method has been implemented.
-The protruding wooden plank in the I/T outdoor play space.

At the inspection additional contraventions, noted above, were identified. Please provide Licensing with a written response, by the date indicated below, stating how the contraventions will be addressed. The intent of a written response if for the facility to demonstrate that systems have been established to ensure year round compliance.

The following items were discussed:
- Ensuring that a systems is established which allows staff to identify who is being allowed into the facility.
- Cardboard has been applied to the back of a shelf. Alternate ways of covering the back of the shelf should be identified since cardboard can not be sanitized.
- Proper guiding and caring strategies in staff interactions with the children displaying challenging behaviours.
-Ensuring that equipment and fixtures do not impede exits at any point during the day.
-Establishing systems to ensure that the facility self identifies items of non compliance.
