Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed that a climber in the facility did not have a 6 foot fall zone around the entire structure and the resilient surfacing was not placed all around the 6 foot fall zone. Please provide active supervision around the climber until this is corrected.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: A lock on the gate at the top of the stairs was not latching properly.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility fixtures are in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed the following during the inspection:
-Rusty hinges on the gate. Rust can present a potential health hazard. Please present active supervision in this area until this is fixed.
-One cord from a keyboard was not secured and was loose. This cord could present a potential hazard.
-One cord in the sleeproom was not secured and was loose. This cord could present a potential hazard.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are harmful to their health and safety.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 29, 2022 there were 5 children, 2 staff, and the Manager was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by May 13, 2022 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Manager.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure.
-The current COVID-19 protocols that are in place
-More food is required for the emergency kit. Licensing suggests sufficient supplies for a period of 72 hours.
