An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLP). Evidence for this report was based on the licensing Officers observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection. All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.
Visit the CCFL website at https://www.fraserhealth.ca/childcare for additional resources and links to the legislation (CCALA & CCLR).
The following discussions were had:
· Active Supervision - discussion was had around tag-teaming between staff. If one staff is busy - the other staff should prioritize children over duties (dishwashing). Staff keep the group together and transitions are very well organized and routines are in place
· Lead in Water - more information can be found at https://www.fraserhealth.ca/health-info/health-topics/drinking-water/. This facility uses a filtered water system.
· Promoting Active Play in the program - this facility ensures outside active play each day.
· Temporary placements / exemptions were discussed (supervision, staffing, emergency evacuation).
Discussion was had around securing outside areas not intended for children. Supervision is ensured.
The children were seen to eat a healthy snack, listen at reading time, engage socially with each other and staff, and play with a variety of materials. The faciilty has many opportunities for all areas of development and many demonstrations of child created art. The caregivers were seen to practice health and hygiene practices, speak in gentle voices, encourage pro social behaviors and use polite manners (saying thank you to a small child). There is evidence of on-going monitoring to ensure compliance with the legislation. Thank you!
