Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: Manager's name was not observed to be posted in a prominent plance.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to post the name of the manager.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During inspection licensing observed:
-There was crack in the wall near the kitchen table, giving access to the materials. Manager stated that they had brought this to the attention of the landlord, and were in the process of having that addressed.
-The seal around the bathroom sink had black substance. Manager stated that it needed to be cleaned.
-One fence board had a gap at the bottom, giving access to children climbing under. Manager stated that the wood chips had been displaced from the area, and would be replaced, along with a board at the bottom.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and the fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During inspection 3 cabinets containing bug traps, batteries, plastic bags, and charging cables were accessible to children. The latches on the cabinets were in place, however, they did not prevent access.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Review of 4 children's files. Two files were missing the record showing the date of enrolment.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep, for each child, a record showing the date of enrolment.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 6 children, one staff, and the facility manger present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:

Review of the facility systems to maintain files was discussed
Outdoor water play was reviewed, including the hose reel.
