Introduction

Licensing was on site to conduct an unscheduled follow up inspection to the routine inspection conducted in April 2018. This inspection was to observe the Group Child Care (school age) program in operation as it was not in operation during the routine inspection. 2 classes were in operation today. Grades 1 and Kindergarten operate in Room #26 and Grades 2 to 6 operate in Room #28. 3 staff were on site with 1 YMCA student working as a volunteer so not part of ratio. Staff to child ratio meets Licensing regulations. The Group Child Care (school age) program has a full Summer schedule in which there are a variety of field trips planned as well as indoor activities. Programming meets the requirements of Schedule G. Today, each program was receiving a visit from 'Mad Science' - a scheduled visit from an outside activity agency. Children were observed in free play activities and snack time. Hygiene practices are in place. At today's inspection, Licensing reviewed a random selection of children's emergency cards and reviewed facility policy for field trips. All allergies are posted and care plans are in place.

No violations were found during the inspection.

Comments

Manager was not on site during Licensing inspection, although she was expected to be on site today. - Reminder piece on active supervision. Email sent to Manager with a resource bulletin and reminders to ensure active supervision takes place, particularly when attending field trips off site. Facility has extra volunteer staff on site to assist with the groups. - Lead in drinking water – a reminder to flush pipes for 5 minutes prior to using taps used for drinking water. This is particularly important in older buildings. - Reportable Incident reporting to Duty line: #604 587 3936. Please use this number if you do not make contact with your Licensing Officer within 24 hours for reporting. Report was reviewed with a supervisor staff. Thank you for your time today.
