Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: -Three areas on the walls showed exposed drywall, licensee has a plan to address this on the coming long weekend.
-A floor mat had areas where the soft fabric below the vinyl was exposed due to regular wear, and is in need of repair or replacement for easy sanitizing and maintenance. Licensee said she will be removing this mat, and replacing.
-An infant swing was removed from the swing set and placed on the ground where the long rope was accessible to children outside, the licensee removed this during the inspection.
-Daily outdoor check had been completed by staff however they had not been logged. Staff will be adding a note in the daily attendance forms to log this is completed.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee provided a plan to address all items on or before February 23. 2024

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: Emergency evacuation plan had not been implemented since December of 2022. Licensee said they would ensure they create a system and implement this in the month of February.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee has made a plan to practice the emergency this month, with documentation of completion on the fire drill form.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 6 children's files, of those 3 files did not contain record of emergency contacts for children.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee will review files obtain emergency contacts by February 9th, 2025

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19250 - CCLR s.58(2)(a) - The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 3 care plans which did not have evidence that they had been developed in consultation with the parent.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee said they will communicate with the parent of all children who require a care plan, and have them sign that they have been consulted with the development of the care plan for the children.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection; 6 children, 1 staff, 1 support staff, the manager were on site during the inspection.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
The following was discussed:
Systems for cleaning and sanitization in bathroom and kitchen.
System for maintaining fridge temperature at food safe levels.
Outdoor maintenance checks.
