Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11220 - CCLR s.23(2) - A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.
Observation: Licensing observed that the first aid kit or emergency bag is not taken by while care is being provided in the school gym.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that first aid kit or the location of the kit and all the emergency information is known to staff while providing care for children in the school gym or outdoor play space.

STAFFING: 12430 - CCLR s.56(1)(b) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation: Licensing observed that two staff working in after school program, did not have staff files including all the required documents listed in section 19(1) available at the site or carrying with them.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that current records are available for each of the staff whether substitute or floating staff.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13071 - CCLR s.56(2) - A licensee must ensure that the policies and procedures referred to in subsection (1) are implemented by employees.
Observation: Licensing observed that staff were not aware of any notification given by the parent i.e Care plans, illness, allergies or medication administration.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that staff (substitute or floating staff) is familiar with all the necessary policies and procedures so that they can be implemented as needed.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated October 24, 2023 there were 25 children and two staff present Licensing met with the substitute staff. At this inspection above noted contraventions were identified.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
