Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance or all areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance .

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Upon inspection, there was a tall wooden shelf in the naproom that was not mounted to the wall. It rocked when shoved.Staff stated that children use this room not only for napping but for gross motor activities also- therefore the unmounted shelf poses a fall hazard.
Upon inspection of the nap mats, the bedding was stored together touching each other that poses a cleanliness issue,
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Upon review of the attendance records, there were 3 children who did not have a departure time recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure records are complete.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated January 22, 2020 there were 6 children and 2 staff present. Licensee stated that there are 12 children registered in the program. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.Licensee will provide a written response to Licensing. Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
