Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.
Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: There was no record of last year's earthquake drill from the school age program.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a record of yearly emergency drills.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 3 children's files and a record of a photo was missing for one child.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure each child has a photograph or digital image.

Comments

At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing provided a date for addressing the contraventions.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.

The following was discussed:

· Different ways to keep record of parent notification if contacted because their child was ill or injured while in care

The following resources were provided:

· Bulletin- Field Trips
· Bulletin- Summer Heat- Keeping children safe while in your care

The information contained in the report was discussed with a staff member and the report and risk assessment were written on-site. Licensing advised that copies of the report and risk assessment would be emailed to the facility.
