Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The path on the side of the house has several areas with landscape paper sticking up out of the rocks. This poses a tripping hazard as this is the path children use to enter the back play space.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation: Upon inspection the following was observed:
- A train table was blocking the back emergency exit (Corrected During Inspection)
- Toys and debris on the stairs leading out of the emergency exit
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure equipment, furniture and supplies are located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection, the water temperature in the bathroom was 50.6 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure any heated water that is accessible to children is heated to no more than 49 degrees Celsius

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Emergency Supplies are insufficient to implement the emergency plan
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure there are sufficient supplies to implement the emergency plan.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 22, 2022 there were 7 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The manager will send licensing a written response addressing the contraventions and Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Away Play Space
· Location of Policies
· Nap room use
· Discussed moving play kitchen in lower playground to another location
· Ensuring blind cords are kept out of reach of children
