Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Residential Care Regulation (RCR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 32320 - RCR s.68(4) - A licensee must ensure that all employees comply with the policies and procedures of the medication safety and advisory committee.
Observation: Review of the MAR noted that there 2 medications that were not initialed or dated on the blister pack from time of dispensing
Corrective Action(s): Ensure staff follow the policies and procedures of the MSA

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 37030 - RCR s.62(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that each menu provides (a) for each day, a nutritious morning, noon and evening meal, with each meal containing at least 3 food groups as described in Canada's Food Guide.
Observation: Review of the Menu showed that there were meals planned for each of the daily meals but no menu audits had been prepared to ensure that the meals met the Canada Food Guide requirements
Corrective Action(s): Ensure audits of the menu are completed for each meal and week of the menu. Audit forms are available on the Canada Food Guide website

Comments

Thank you to the staff and management of Nazirah house for their support during the routine inspection. The PIC's will be returning to the home after March 25 2020 as there is construction/ renovation of the physical facility and they have been temporarily living at Shiloah since September 2019. A follow up inspection of the home will be completed after the PIC's have moved back to the facility.
