Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: It was observed that children's medication is stored in the kitchen fridge, however a fridge thermometer was not present, therefore there is no way to ensure the medication is stored at the appropriate temperature
Corrective Action(s): Manager states a fridge thermometer will be put in place, and ensure the temperature in the fridge is operating between 0 - 4 degrees Celsius

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: During a walk through of the outdoor play space for all programs it was noted that the hand rails that were previously painted are now showing wear, and most of the paint is gone which leaves the exposed wood which can cause splinters.
Corrective Action(s): Manager states that a plan will be implemented to repair the hand rails, and the written plan will be provided to Licensing within 3 weeks time outlining how the repairs will be completed

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: It was noted that hand towels are hanging on the wall and are reused throughout the day
Corrective Action(s): Manager states that additional towels will be provided to ensure they are single use only

At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. The Licensee/Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. For this inspection the contents of the Facility Inspection Report and Risk Assessment were discussed and provided to the Licensee and/or Manager while on site.
