Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: One staff had an expired criminal record check. Discussion occurred about this staff not working alone until they have a new clearance letter.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all staff have a valid criminal record check on file.

MEDICATION: 16080 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: There was an expired epi pen on site for a child who requires one
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all medication that is to be given to a child is not expired

Comments

At the inspection dated March 3, 2021 there were 31 children and 9 staff present combined in all the programs operating. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Covid-19 safety plan is posted.

A Covid-19 prevention audit was completed.

Discussed the following:
- annual review of care plans
- sleeping arrangements in the group child care room
- self monitoring systems

This report was not signed on site due to the Covid-19 pandemic to help promote health and hygiene.
