Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance with the exception of the outdoor play area do to snow. Manager confirmed that the outdoor play area is in good condition and inspected by staff daily prior to use.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 3 sharp knives were observed in a drawer accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Manager explained that sharp knives are generally kept in a bin on the top shelf of a cupboard. Licensing observed the bin. The manager immediately moved the knives into the designated bin.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 17, 2020 there were 5 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified.
