Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13010 - CCLR s.22(1)(a) - A licensee must have all of the following: (a) emergency exits and a fire drill system approved by a local assistant within the meaning of the Fire Services Act.
Observation: The facility has two fire extinguishers. Both needed to be serviced in July 2020 and this has not been completed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a current inspection decal is available on fire extinguishers.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated September 22, 2020 there were eight children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. A written response stating how the contravention has been addressed is to be submitted to the Licensing Officer by October 16, 2020.As part of this routine inspection a facility risk assessment tool and a Covid-19 Infection Control Assessment are completed and copies provided. A copy of this inspection report was sent to the manager by email on September 22, 2020.
The following was discussed with the manager:
The bark mulch in the outdoor play area has been packed down while the facility has been closed. the Licensing Officer recommends that staff check the depth of the bark mulch around the outdoor play equipment. The depth of the bark mulch around play equipment needs to be:
6" for equipment 5' high
12" for equipment 7" high
A copy of the Resource Package for Child Care Facilities. Covid-19 Prevention was provided.
