Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): School Age, incl. K or Gr. 1 - Staff to Child ratio not maintained. (RA) Thirteen children in attendance with only one staff member when the Licensing Officer arrived. A second staff arrived within 30 minutes to correct the staff to child ratio.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

Comments

On the inspection date of January 3, 2024 there were 13 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Actions required by the licensee include no further action required as the contravention has been addressed and actions required the LO include no further action required. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. This inspection report was completed on site, reviewed with the manager and then emailed to the facility the following day.
