Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR # have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following inside the facility:
- There is a wooden shelf with metal railings that has rust on it.
- There is two outlets in the hallway that is not covered

Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play space:
- The plastic covering surrounding the railings of the swings are starting to wear off. A disussion was had with the licensee that overtime this may pose a risk to the children as it could become sharp.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: A selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the two files reviewed, one file indicated the child requires a care plan. The licensee stated the parents indicated the allergy was not severe and the child may have outgrown it.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a current care plan showing the diagnonses relevant to the child's requirement as made by health care professionals is on file.

Comments

At the inspection dated December 16, 2019 there were 3 children and 1 adult present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the licensee includes providing a written response by December 23, 2019.
Licensing conducted an inspection of the entire home and determined that ages and group size is in compliance.
As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.
