Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection -
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon observation of the outdoor play area, the following was noted:
- A waste bin was overflowing with garbage. The Manager said that she was going to empty the bin out today.
- A lattice/screen panel was broken and needed to be replaced. The Manager said that she will take this down completely.
- Gaps below the fence were covered by pieces of wood and logs. The Manager said that she will be getting more wood pieces to cover the rest of the gaps.
- The mesh screen door has tears in some areas and is in need of repair. The Manager said that she will replace this.

Observations inside the facility:
- The nap room is cluttered and a crib was observed to have the bed on the ground, unsupported by the frame. The Manager said that children like to pull on the frame which moves the metal hinge, thus the bed part drops to the floor. The Manager said that the crib is older and she will be replacing the crib.
- Areas of the facility were observed to be in need of sweeping. The Manager corrected this after it was noted.
- General cleanliness of the facility and clutter was discussed with the Manager. The Manager said that she cleans the facility daily and that during transitions from outside to inside, the children are frequently bringing in dirt. The importance of keeping a standard of general cleanliness was discussed.

This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Date to be Corrected: Nov. 1, 2022

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A cabinet in the washroom containing cleaning supplies was not locked and a container of Lysol wipes were on the kitchen counter, accessible to the children. This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Date to be Corrected: Oct. 17, 2022

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
