Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Child Care Licensing Regulationand the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice. All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: 1) Licensing observed a number of items stored on the top of the cubbies. In discussion with the Manager these items are being stored by a community partner who shares the facility space with the child care program.
2) Licensing noted a kettle located in the kitchen where children have access. The contents of the kettle had recently been heated as the kettle was warm to the touch.
Corrective Action(s): 1)Licensing had a discussion with the Manager and the community partner to remove any item which may injure an individual if it fell onto them.
2) To prevent any individual from being scalded or burned by hot water staff will need to empty the kettle after each use. Additionally any hot water must be made inaccessible to children in care.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 8, 2021 there were 9 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified and any actions required by the Licensee are included. As part of this routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Licensing noted the outdoor covered area decking is beginning to show signs of wear. It is strongly recommended that the Licensee include this issue in their long term maintenance plan.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic this report was reviewed with the Manager at the time of the inspection. This report was written off site (time spent: .33 hours) and a copy of this report was sent to the Manager.

Information provided to and reviewed with the Manager included the resources from the BC Centre for Disease Control COVID-19 When to get tested for COVID-19 and the Public Health Guidance for Child Care Settings.
