Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed a child's medication in a first aid kit that was sitting on a toy shelf and accessible to the children.
Licensing discussed the importance of ensuring that all medication is inaccessible to children in care.
Corrective Action(s): The Manager said that the first aid kit will be place on top of the fridge out of children's reach.

Summary of Inspection
At the routine inspection conducted on April 24, 2024 there were ten children, three staff and the Manager present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Manager has a plan to address the contravention and therefore no further action is required.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed.
The following discussions were had:
- Care plans need to reviewed at least once a year
- Supervision plan for the bathrooms
- An incident that occurred and requires to be completed on the online reportable incident form
- Having a system in place to maintain emergency supplies
- Minor incident log book; details that need to be included
The contents of the inspection report and risk assessment were reviewed with the Manager at the time of the inspection. This report was written off site. A copy of this report and the risk assessment were emailed to the facility.
