Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Three classrooms had the mats stored with the bedsheets on and were on top of each other, and the bedsheets were touching. This item is a repeat contravention, and was contravened on Dec. 05, 2022 on inspection report #MZIN-CLTSJS.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times. Bedsheets should not be touching when stored.

Comments

At the inspection dated Jan. 08, 2024 there were 108 children, 22 staff and 1 practicum student present.The manager was also on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contravention noted in this report was reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Reportable Incident procedures to be reported within 24 hours
- Practicum student procedures
- Outdoor playtime procedure for each classroom
- Spacing of water bottles when not in use
