Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the routine inspection the following was noted:
- a metal shelf was blocking a non-working fridge. The shelf was not bolted to the wall. Licensee said that once the fridge is removed from the facility, the shelf will be moved to the wall and will be mounted to the wall.
- nap room was crowded with various items.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that you provide a healthy and safe environment.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the routine inspection it was noted that some of the walls had paint chipping and the dry wall was exposed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the facility is in good repair.

STAFFING: 12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation: During the routine inspection, staff file was reviewed and it was noted that a record of person's work history was missing.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all staff files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated October 25, 2023 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Licensing noted that a screen time policy was not available. The licensee said that they do not use screen time at the facility. Licensing recommended that a screen time policy is created.
- Temporary placement were discussed
- Regarding the emergency supplies system. It was noted that food and water were available but there was no system in place for the items to be transported to the muster point.

Valid CRC, confirmed expiry date with licensee.
