Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14010 - CCLR s.34(1) - A licensee must ensure that children are adequately supervised by qualified employees in sufficient numbers to meet the needs of each child.
Observation: Upon arrival, Licensing found that children were not being supervised by qualified employees as The Manager was off site. The Manager arrived at the facility shortly after.

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: Upon inspection, Licensing observed 9 children in care, which is less than permitted in Schedule E. The Manager explained this is the first time this happened and addressed this during the inspection.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation: Several children with indicated allergies on their registration form did not have a care plan, including the course of action recommended by health care professionals. The Manager explained she will follow up with each child's parents and obtain this information to create care plans.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 15, 2024 there were 9 children and 2 volunteers present. The Manager arrived on site during the inspection. At this inspection the above no contraventions were identified. Licensee/Manager to provide Licensing with a written response with actions taken to bring facility into compliance. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool will be completed and a copy will be provided.
