Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: During an inspection of the fire extinguishers, it was noted that they needed servicing on Nov. 13, 2019.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fire extinguishers are serviced.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During a review of 9 children's files, it was found that 7 were missing photographs.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's files are complete.

Comments

At this inspection, there were 19 children and 6 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include sending Licensing a written response due by Nov. 27, 2019 addressing the contraventions. Actions required the LO include reviewing the written response addressing the contraventions. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

It was observed staff certificates were available in staff files but not posted. They were in frames and manager informed LO that the frames are broken. Manager will post the certificates once there are new frames.
